This lining was completed in an older neighborhood in Portsmouth, NH. The interior plumbing of the house was all old copper and transitioned to cast iron that was embedded into the foundation wall and was cracked and leaking.
The interior of the cast iron was in poor condition. The bottom of it was worn out creating a trough and it was starting to bubble. In the pipe, it switched from cast iron to what appeared to be asbestos or a tile pipe. The top of the pipe was down and you could see the lip and it dropped into the secondary pipe which was slightly larger in diameter. The interior of this pipe was more smooth than the cast iron. But it was starting to wear out on the bottom and you could see exposed fibers. Some of the joints were misaligned slightly. There were spots you could see where cracks were starting to form as well as exposed rock towards the end of the pipe. The pipe was hammer-tapped into the clay main.
We jetted the line to clean out the initial debris, loose cast iron, and some of the small roots in the joints. Then we descaled the cast iron pipe to remove all the bubbles and more challenging scale. Afterward, we gave the pipe a final jetting to rinse it all out. We inverted a liner from the cleanout all the way to the main. So now it was one piece covering all the seams. The liner ended just in the main on the bottom of the existing pipe entering and made a good connection. Then we disconnected the upstairs plumbing fittings that were connected with Fernco rubber fittings. We then reinstated the upstairs plumbing going into the main pipe. Then we installed a 1-foot section of liner in the top of the TY that was embedded in the concrete. This piece lined the inside of the cast iron TY and the copper pipe tied into it. This stopped the seepage from the cracks in the cast iron.
To complete this job we used state-of-the-art UV Lining material and equipment. The entire rehab of the degraded piping was completed in less than a day.
